What to Expect for Your First Visit
On your first visit, you'll be welcomed into the comfortable setting of Irby Spine Care. After filling out and submitting the forms regarding medical history, you'll meet with one of the two chiropractors, Dr. Archer Irby or Dr. Randi Blitz Irby .
The doctor will perform a few exams in order to gauge what treatment may be needed.
Chiropractic Exam
The first exam, for chiropractic, consists of performing a thorough spinal and nervous system check that includes digital palpation, or examining your spine by hand. It feels like a pressing on your spine, a pushing in and out, and in most cases is not uncomfortable. With this exam, the doctor can determine which areas of your spine may be developing subluxations . Spinal position, curvatures and muscle tone can also be examined as it relates to possible spinal subluxation.
Insight Millennium Subluxation Examination
Next, you'll receive a computerized examination with the Insight Millennium. This small, hand-held electronic sensing tool allows the doctors to read spinal heat differences from one level of the spine to another, as well as from one side of the spine to the other. The device also scans the surface of your spinal area for surface electrical impulses, and measures them along your spine. The exam is not invasive at all and should cause no discomfort.
Using the Insight Millennium detection device is much more accurate than relying on reports of how you're feeling on any given day. It will pinpoint problems and allow the doctors to develop a plan for healing that's just right for you.
X-Rays
You can also expect to have X-rays taken, unless you are pregnant or have recent usable spinal X-rays already. However, X-rays are not always taken for children. X-rays confirm what the doctors have already felt with their hands in the palpation, and they give detailed information including the position of the spinal bones, the quality of the spine and the safety of adjusting it. Most patients receive three spinal X-rays at the beginning of care.
With this important information, the doctors can make an accurate assessment of the type of adjustments your spine needs as well as the initial frequency of your care.
Usually, the doctor will not adjust your spine on the first visit, but you will get therapeutic pain relief if necessary. Drs. Irby take the time to review your exam findings and plan a course of treatment that will be effective for you. They will not only help you get rid of the pain but also correct what's causing the pain.
The Next Visit
You will be scheduled for your Report of Findings meeting with your doctor following your initial visit. This is your most important visit and may take up to one hour. At your Report of Findings, your test results and care plan will be explained to you in detail. The doctor will go over any special instructions for you to obtain the best and fastest possible results.
